large archery antler plaques with european mounts

Our primary concern when planning and building the antler plaque shown on this page, was to position these antlers as though the elk was standing in the wild with his head in a typical position.

To accomplish that goal we beefed up the mounting blocks and support structure by adding bulk.  The additional weight of the structure alone was enough to require more fasteners, but when the antlers were taken into consideration the fasteners were enlarged as well.  We epoxied areas where we would not normally use glues.

We did manage to provide enough support for the weight of the antlers without sacrificing the delicate appearance of the plaque, despite the large size.   We were well pleased and consider this plaque as a milestone, a rite of passage if you will, toward bigger and better things.

As well as building a large plaque, we chose to turn the 'head' if the elk.  That configuration really adds a realistic character to this plaque.

Viewing from the left, you can visualize the beefy treatment of the mounting blocks and support 'neck'.

From the right side view, you can see that the broadhead is the same scale as those used in other styles.

We have included this picture to help you realize the potential of these plaques to searve as alternatives to the traditional shoulder mount.  This picture puts in perspective, the virtual size of this plaque.  The plaques are quite large and are attractive as well.  We feel we are on our way to accomplishing some very interesting challenges in the future.

Here at Goreham Woodcraft, we were not happy making plaques that would have been attempted by anyone making small to medium sized antler mounts.

We were asked if we could replace a traditional european mount with something that would display the antlers in a more impressive manner.

We accepted the challenge.  The results were quite impressive indeed.

This is a set of antlers everyone notices.  The buyer hangs the antlers in a store in the area and upon delivery of the plaque, many visitors were amazed that anyone would accomplish such a feat such as this.

Oh well, it's just those people at Goreham Woodcraft!!!

Please feel free to send any comments our way.  We will appreciate them...who knows, we might even like them!
